Google Ad Manager

This guide will teach you how to create an audio ad unit, create an audio creative, generate a VAST Ad Tag in Google Ad Manager, add the VAST Ad Tag to SpeechKit and serve audio ads through the SpeechKit audio player.

  1. You will need a SpeechKit account. Don't have one? Create one.
  2. You will need a Project. Don't have one? Create one.
  3. You will need a Google Ad Manager account. Don't have one? Create one.

Create an audio ad unit

  • Sign in to your Google Ad Manager account, select Inventory > Ad Units > and select New ad unit.
  • Enter a suitable name and code e,g, "SpeechKit Player".
  • The size mode should be set to Fixed size.
  • The Video (VAST) size should be set to 400x300v as the Master size to match the creative.

Add an audio creative

Now that you have created an audio ad unit, you will need to create an audio creative.

Your audio ad creative will need to be an MP4 video, which the SpeechKit player will process as audio. This is because, at the time of writing, Google Ad Manager does not support audio-only formats. Accepted video formats: Learn more.

To add your MP4 video as an audio creative select Delivery > VAST creatives > and select New creative.

Then select the Advertiser that the creative belongs to and select the Video creative type:

  • Enter a suitable name for your creative e.g, "Listening brings us closer".
  • Set the target ad size to 400x300v (or the same as the Ad Unit size in the previous step).
  • Select Ad Manager hosted.
  • De-select store uploaded file as a mezzanine.
  • Upload your MP4 video file.

The video will then start processing. Once processing has been completed:

  • Enter a Destination Click-through URL (Listeners will be able to click-through to this url via the SpeechKit audio player) e.g, "".
  • Press Save.

Connect the audio creative to the audio Ad unit

Once you have saved your new audio creative, you will need to connect it to your Ad unit so that it can be returned in the VAST Ad tag.

Make sure you create a corresponding Order and Line Item before continuing. You should see the Ready status alongside your Line Item once you have approved your Order, signifying that the creative is ready to be served.

Generate a VAST Ad tag

You will now need to generate a VAST Ad tag, to do this select Inventory > Ad units > select your audio ad unit then select Tags:

  • Select the Tag type: Google Publisher Tag for Video.
  • Press Continue.
  • Enable Live traffic.
  • Select Player SDK type: No SDK.
  • Press Continue.
  • Enter the URL that the SpeechKit audio player is live.
  • Enter the same URL for the Description URL.

Both the URL and Description URL will be updated by the player at runtime before the VAST request is made, hence the values added here do not need to reflect the exact page URL.

  • Press Continue.
  • Press Copy tag.
